Communicare’s Parole In-Reach Program (PiP) was implemented as part of a Western Australian Government led justice reform program

Communicare’s Parole In-Reach Program (PiP) was implemented as part of a Western Australian Government led justice reform program with the aim to increase appropriate access to parole, by strengthening post-release supervision, rehabilitation, and support to participants. The program is aimed at improving community safety and addressing the expanding prison population with the over-representation of Aboriginal people within the criminal justice system.

The PiP program aims to increase community safety by holding perpetrators to account for their abusive behaviours and violence within their close relationships. Their engagement in the program works toward an outcome of increased safety for their partner’s, children, family, and the community at large. The program itself is a blended design, utilising psychoeducation, cognitive behavioural therapy, narrative therapy, and dialectical behaviour therapy techniques.

Individuals are referred to the program via the Department of Justice. Eligibility into the program is determined by the Department.

PiP operates out of Acacia Prison and Wooroloo.
