A Different Way to Learn
Communicare’s Alternative Education Programs support young people who are disengaged from mainstream school environments. We work with each young person to help them reach their individual education, training, and employment goals.
Jobs and Skills
Jobs and Skills is a government subsidised program to help students get their Certificate in General Educations for Adults. Communicare run a 10-week program across 3 locations, Midland, Cannington and Rockingham 4 times a year. The program is for students where school is not the best learning environment and therefore the RTO Training Space offers an alternative experience. To be eligible you must either be unemployed with a heath care or pension card or be aged 15 to 18 and referred by an authorised referral agent or by the Department of Education under a Notice of Arrangement. Find out more through our Alternative Education page.
Jobs and Skills WA – Youth at Risk is for young people between 15 and 18 who are referred by the Department of Education under a Notice of Arrangement or other authorised referral agents.
Mentor4U
Mentor4U is funded by the Department of Education and helps break down barriers for severely at-risk Year 11 and 12 students. When youth are disengaged from school for significant periods of time, Mentor4U can help them navigate any challenges they may be facing and get them back on track to reach their goals. Mentor4U mentors provide a safe, non-judgemental environment for students as they work one on one with them to build the skills, attitude, confidence, and abilities they need to continue through to other education or employment.
“I didn’t have the easiest upbringing, so to have somebody help me learn how to cook, I was really grateful… I think the self-doubt and the ability to put myself down, you definitely helped me change and that’s something I’ll forever be grateful for.”
